Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences growing in power within the city.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the main group to embark on their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team features Teor (played by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.

Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might seem unsuited, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

First, the group understands precisely where to go next after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.

The traitor then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each character has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, wants retribution.
  • The adventurer knows the northern area and warns that it is a nasty environment.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their position as important members in the powerful family could assist the group reach places they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The healer defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.

This results in them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.

What’s Next?

According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Explorers and Schemers groups.

Viewers can look forward to discovering which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s last Overture episode, released on October 24.
