Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at all of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the championship lead from Piastri by just one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, outpaced the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before sprint qualifying scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, trailing 36 points behind behind Norris, ended up in P17 as his Red Bull team followed a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, albeit lightly, when he rotated at Turn Four early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before spinning across the run-off area, and was lucky to avoid just a minor contact of the barrier.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the final moments of the session, rotating twice through the high-speed Mergulho turn approaching the final bend on to the main straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in 19th, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
