The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
The preview reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is why Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
