One extended cruise around the Australian Coast is being halted days after the fatal incident of an elderly woman who was left behind by the cruise liner on a isolated tropical isle.

The passenger had been walking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer, but broke off from the excursion for a pause. The vessel sailed away leaving her and went back later that day after the ship staff became aware the woman was not present.

An extensive search operation discovered her remains the following day.

Officials are investigating the incident, together with police and the medical examiner.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator said that passengers and staff on the ship were notified that the remainder of the voyage had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and earlier mechanical issues".

In a statement, he mentioned that travelers would be issued a total repayment, and said the organization was working "to organize the travel back of the individuals via private aircraft".

Authorities also issued an updated statement, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Master" banning any additional guests from boarding the vessel.
